As their latest animated film How to Train Your Dragon 2 opens in theaters, Dreamworks announced several release dates for new projects on Thursday.
The new release dates span the next several years – as far as 2018 – and include original movies and sequels, threequels, and fourquels.
– Kung Fu Panda 3: December 23, 2015
– How to Train Your Dragon 3: June 17, 2016
– Captain Underpants: January 13, 2017
– The Croods 2: November 3, 2017
– Madagascar 4: May 18, 2018
– Puss in Boots 2: Nine Lives & 40 Thieves: November 2, 2018
The only film on this slate that isn’t a sequel is Captain Underpants, an adaptation of the popular book series by Dav Pilkey. Kevin Hart and Ed Helms will lead the voice cast. It is directed by Rob Letterman, and voice recording is already underway.
Puss in Boots 2 is a sequel to the original which was a spinoff of the Shrek franchise. The lead character, a badass cat, is voiced by Antonio Banderas.
In a recent interview, Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg hinted that additional Shrek films may go into production after the series enjoys an extended break.
