Burger King now has a perfume. Whopper-scented. Is this ridiculous, or the best publicity stunt ever?
Before you speed down to the comments section, ready to set us straight: yes, this is very possibly an April Fool’s prank.
Burger King’s Whopper fragrance, dubbed “Flame-Grilled,” is, after all, set to debut on April 1. Anyone with even a sliver of skepticism would think this was a hoax.
However, this is actually not Burger King’s first fragrance. In 2008, they released a barbecue-scented cologne named “Flame.” Check out the ad for it below:
“Flame-Grilled” will be sold only in Japan, and the reason for the suspicious launch date is that Burger King has deemed April 1st to be the official “Whopper Day” over there.
We’ll believe it when we see it, but honestly, it wouldn’t be the craziest marketing stunt in the world.
After all, even people who have sworn off fast food can’t deny the almost irresistible smell of Burger King and McDonald’s burgers; the combination of sweet, salty and savoury is very carefully designed to make you desire their products.
So anyone wearing this ridiculous perfume would actually put everyone around them in the mood for a Whopper.
The question is, who would un-ironically decide that smelling like fast food was a great idea?
While it certainly is a great way to get people talking about the Burger King brand, we really hope – for the sake of humanity – that this is indeed a prank.
