Jake tries to turn a lockdown into a summer camp with terrible results on tonight’s episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 2, episode 7, “Lockdown.” Check out our recap!
With Holt and Terry preparing to take off on Thanksgiving, Holt puts Jake in charge of the precinct. This seems illogical, but Holt actually asked Amy to lead first. Teddy (her boyfriend – remember him?) has made plans for them so she’s ready to leave with the rest of them. Not even hours later, Boyle discovers a package that is suspiciously duct taped and covered in white powder.
Cut to: the entire precinct being sealed off and everyone’s plans are delayed a little bit longer.
Three other precincts received similar packages that were just baking powder so there is no reason for them to freak out. Until there is reason. The tests came back negative for baking powder, which means it could be anthrax.
It’ll be at least five hours until they can actually test, and they have 42 civilians, 12 perps (“dirty dozen”), the innocent people (“normies”), trouble (“doink-miesters”), 6 lawyers (“vegetable medley”) locked in with the Nine-Niners.
Amy thinks they should divulge the information that it could be toxic to the civilians, but Jake thinks that is a bad idea. And in that moment, Holt regrets putting Jake in charge. Amy implores Jake to set ground rules, but now the civilians are hungry. Okay, Jake serves them the food that had been delivered. Now they’re cold. See the problem now? Jake doesn’t, he goes and looks for faux fur in the evidence locker.
He entrusts one civilian with the news that it’s not baking powder, and that one guy immediately claims it is in fact anthrax. It’s sort of a reflection of today’s media – it’s not one thing so we immediately jump to conclusions that it’s the only other possibility.
A mob mentality breaks loose, people are yelling, and suddenly a couch is on fire. Jake comes clean to Holt about the insanity that is ensuing, and admits that Amy should take charge. She sits down with him, and says that he is still trying to make people happy and he’s a good leader. Her pep talk convinces Jake to man up and set boundaries.
Road tripping with Terry and Raymond
Before chaos erupted at the Nine-Nine, Sargent Jeffords and Captain Holt took off for a trip to a charity event. As they are on their way, Terry is explaining to Holt about how he’s worried about his brother-in-law Zeke, who has been taunting Terry. Holt says Terry is like an oak, a hearty and strong tree, nothing should bother him.
Note: Terry Crews is 6′ 3″, 245, and can do this with his pecs. He is not an easy man to intimidate.
They have to stop at Terry’s house for Holt to get a solid connection into the precinct. While there, they take over the home office, and in the process Terry bonds with Zeke over how “terrible” their bosses are. It’s a small feat, but one to be ‘thankful’ for nonetheless.
Moments before Terry and Holt walk back into the precinct, the team receives an all-clear. Boyle finds the guy who planted the package – a scorned IT employee who had been fired from all four precincts – and they can all go home. Happy Turkey day!
