‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ season 2, episode 17 recap
While Amy is trying to brief everyone on an open case involving a counterfeiter who misspelled ‘plurbis’ on the bills (which has been driving her crazy), Gina interrupts to see how everyone is doing on their assignments for the wedding.
Rosa is on flower detail, which sounds handled. They’re yellow. Terry is on tuxes, which are pretty much taken care of, while Jake is in charge of picking up the rings the day of the ceremony. When he remarks on how ring detail fits his three criteria (easy, last minute and crucial as hell), we know something is bound to go wrong.
Jake has discovered that the girl he missed out on dancing with during his bar mitzvah, Jenny Gildenhorn, is finally single again after divorcing her husband three months ago. He also discovered that she would be at the wedding (coincidence, we think not). Now’s his chance.
The morning of the wedding, Jake and Amy go to pick up the ring, and Amy gets a call about that counterfeiter from the top of the episode. She begs Peralta to go check out the area and he relents.
Boyle’s dad starts to have a little bit of a freak out over his impending nuptials, and Boyle can’t seem to find a way to calm him down. He hunts down Gina to help out.
Santiago’s counterfeiter finally goes down, but Jake rips his cummerbund in the process. Amy lends him her spare from her days in her high school marching band, where she played french horn (let Peralta’s teasing commence… now).
Jake and Amy may be a little behind, but they make it to the ceremony reasonably on time. Just when Jake thinks he is finally gonna get some alone time with Jenny Gildenhorn, Gina asks him for the ring, and he realizes that he lost it in the arrest.
Amy and Jake return to the alley to search through the garbage pile for the ring. Somehow, Amy is able to find it, and she, jokingly, shoves it onto Jake’s finger in a mock proposal. He complains that the ring is a little tight, all but telling us that Amy just got Gina’s mother’s wedding band stuck.
Gina gives Boyle’s dad a pep talk, and he gets his act together just in time. Peralta and Santiago arrive right around the same time (although they missed the Boyle men doing some sort of butt-bumping dance thing, sadly), and deliver the bad news that the ring is stuck on Jake’s finger. Terry offers to help Jake get it off, but warns that it might hurt. Terry starts to tug, and Jake sees Jenny making out with another man. He shrieks.
Captain Holt steps in for Terry to officiate the wedding (Terry just couldn’t pull it together in time), and keeps it short, but sweet. He gives the shortest, sweetest speech (including a reference to oatmeal), and then pulls no punches in getting the couple bound in holy matrimony.
Amy apologizes to Peralta for helping him miss his opportunity with the girl that got away, Jenny Gildenhorn. He may be a little sad, but nothing that Amy can’t solve by setting him up with an adorable, yet handsy little old lady that has “had her eye on him all night.” Good luck, Jake.
