Broadchurch is back tonight, and Sandbrook is top of the agenda.
It’s been an interesting season so far on Broadchurch. It hasn’t been about one case as much as two cases: the Danny Lattimer murder trial and the unsolved Sandbrook murder.
Tonight, it continues to be Sandbrook-centric as the video below reveals. It looks like Pippa’s father, Ricky Gillespie (Shaun Dooley), will be interrogated by D.I. Hardy (David Tennant) and D.S. Miller (Olivia Coleman).
It also seems like Miller and Hardy have stumbled upon a key item: a furnace. Could that be why they are missing Lisa’s body? A furnace would be a likely way that a body never being found could be explained.
It’s also great to see Ellie in full investigative mode, rather than the victim of her husband’s crime. Hardy is warning her off the case, but Ellie seems to be having none of it. Hardy is clearly too close to the case. If nothing else, Ellie is a skilled set of fresh eyes. She is not going to let this case drop. In a way, if Ellie solves the case, it gives her satisfaction, and Hardy absolution.
As much as the clip seems to focus on Sandbrook, it seems unlikely that we won’t see something of the trial of Joe Miller. Which witness will the defense eviscerate this week in its quest for exoneration?
For starters, Susan Wright (Pauline Quirke) is back in town, and she’s never played with a full-deck. She’s an angry woman with a past history of abuse. Who knows what she’ll make up, since it’s clear she no longer has anything to lose?
Also, a likely target of the defense is Mark Lattimer (Andrew Buchan), who seems like the perpetual screw-up. We’re wondering when Beth (Jodie Whittaker) is going to have enough and show him the door, that or give him the reaming out he truly deserves.
Broadchurch airs tonight at 10:00pm ET/PT on BBC America.
