Judd Apatow’s next directorial project Trainwreck is in the casting stages, and it may have just landed Brie Larson, an accomplished comedic supporting actress.
Variety is reporting that Brie Larson has entered talks to join Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck. Her deal is not completed, but she is expected to sign on.
Larson’s role is not officially known, but it would make sense to believe that she would play the previously reported role of the co-worker/best friend of star Amy Schumer’s character.
A supporting role in a comedy film such as this would be a return to form for Larson. Though she got great praise for her starring role in Short Term 12 last year, she’s known best for supporting roles in films like 21 Jump Street, The Spectacular Now, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Don Jon. Her Don Jon pushed the “supporting” label to an extreme, but her role was one of the film’s most memorable.
In addition to Trainwreck, Larson also has the role of Mark Wahlberg’s love interest in the remake of The Gambler on tap as well as The Good Luck of Right Now, a DreamWorks film she recently signed on for.
As we previously reported, Trainwreck will center around Schumer’s character who is “a basket case who tries to rebuild her life.”
At the time of that report, it was also know that Apatow was in the process of casting three more significant roles: the boyfriend, the co-worker/best friend, and the parent.
With the probable casting of Larson, two of those three roles are becoming a little more clear. When Bill Hader was cast, we didn’t know if he’d be the boyfriend or the best friend, but it looks like he’ll be the boyfriend and Larson the best friend.
