We have a release date for Bridget Jones’ Baby, the long-awaited (?) continuation of Bridget Jones’ ill-fated romantic saga.
Whether you like it or not, Bridget Jones is coming back for her third cinematic outing, despite having gotten her happily-ever-after twice already! What’s the deal, Hollywood? It’s like you’re saying that life goes on after the end credits!
In Bridget Jones’ Baby, which picks up more than 10 years after the second movie On the Edge of Reason, Renée Zellweger’s Bridget is back for another round of quirky adventures.
The movie is loosely based on the third Helen Fielding novel, Mad About the Boy, which has many Bridget/Mark shippers worried, as the book notoriously kills off Mark Darcy in the first chapter and sends the middle-aged Bridget on a quest to figure out dating in the digital age.
Colin Firth is reportedly back for this movie, however, which hopefully means that Bridget Jones’ Baby will take the story in a different direction — or at least resurrect the character, who book fans speculate is not really dead.
We won’t have to wait long to find out the fate of Mark Darcy, at least! It’ll be a quick turnaround for Bridget Jones’ Baby, with Rentrak reporting that the release date has been set for September 16, 2016.
Original Bridget Jones’ Diary director Sharon Maguire is back to helm the reprise, having co-written the script with One Day and Us author David Nicholls.
Last we heard, former Grey’s Anatony star Patrick Dempsey was in talks to join the movie, perhaps as a new romantic rival to Mark. Hugh Grant’s Daniel Cleaver will not return for Bridget Jones’ Baby.
