Breaking Bad star and fan favorite Aaron Paul, who plays Jesse Pinkman, says that he’s interested in a role in the spinoff but hasn’t been invited yet.
Paul made the comments in a new, official interview with AMC, the network behind the original meth drama and its spinoff Better Call Saul.
“I’d love to be a part of it,” he said. “I’m not sure if that’s in the cards. I’m so jealous that everyone is back in Albuquerque, back in the same stages where we shot Breaking Bad. It’s so strange to me that the Saul Goodman office has been rebuilt and they’re shooting on it right now. I’m so happy for everyone involved.”
Since filming is already underway, it’s a little surprising that creator Vince Gilligan hasn’t offered Paul a role yet. Maybe he’ll make an appearance later in the season, or maybe he’ll have to wait until season 2 if it receives a renewal.
This isn’t the first time that Paul has expressed his interest in appearing in the show (he has previously said he’s had “serious talks” to join), and it wouldn’t be unrealistic for his character to be added to Saul. Consider: Jesse was the person who introduced Walter White to Saul, so the spinoff, which is a prequel, could explore the Saul/Jesse relationship prior to Walter getting into the meth business.
In addition to Bob Odenkirk, actors Michael McKean and Jonathan Banks will co-star.
Better Call Saul is set to debut in November on AMC, and all episodes will be released on Netflix right after the season 1 finale.
