Bones season 10, episode 13, “The Baker in the Bits,” packed all kinds of emotional punches for our team last night. Read on for the full recap!
While the murder was a significant part of the storyline last night, it was the effect it had on Booth and a family crisis for Aristoo that created the majority of the drama.
The Case of the Week:
The episode starts off with us actually witnessing the murder. A man, who has had his arm cut, is being chased and jumps over some fences. We notice that the fences have warning signs on them but sadly our victim does not and he is blown up. It turns out that he is an ex-con who works at a bakery for other ex-cons so they can try to start over after they get released.
Aubrey goes to the victim’s apartment and finds his girlfriend who we later learned knew he was taking drugs again. When Aristoo finds a small injection site on the skull, Cam deduces that the reason he was able to escape from his murderer the first time, was because he had developed a tolerance. With Angela’s help, the team is able to give Aubrey and Booth the site of where he was initially held and they find the burned bodies of three more victims.
The preview made it seem like this was going to be a big serial killer that might last longer than this episode. However the team pieced together that all the victims shared one person in common: one of the ex-cons who had been working at the bakery the longest. Booth has to end up shooting him to disarm him and they put him away. They didn’t identify one of the bodies so maybe this will be addressed in later episodes?
The Lab Family:
Booth starts the episode with a panic attack because he can’t find the picture of Brennan and Christine that helped him get through his stint in prison. The case gives him a bit of PTSD and he is adamant that just because someone went to prison doesn’t mean they A) were a bad guy to begin with and B) that they can’t change once they get out. No one is arguing with him but he takes it pretty personally.
Elsewhere in the episode, Cam finds out from Aristoo that his brother back in Iran is essentially dying. His brother has no family and Aristoo feels like he needs to go back and make sure he is getting the best care possible and that he isn’t alone if he does die. At first he completely dismisses Cam’s worry about him going back because of his shaky citizenship status there.
The two later have an actual conversation about their relationship, and Cam does say she wants to marry him at some point but if he goes back to Iran she is terrified he will never be allowed to come back to America. Aristoo feels that he has to do this for his brother and that he has to have faith that the government there now has to have some good left in it.
The episode ends with his brother getting worse and Aristoo leaving. Cam begs him to come back to her and we are left with them saying goodbye.
