Black Sails wraps its second season tonight, and we are wondering who is going to be left standing.
During the course of this season, we have lost an awful lot of characters on Black Sails. Ned Lowe, Richard Guthrie, and Miranda Hamilton are just a few of the major deaths. The question is: Are we done yet?
Granted, the life expectancy of someone intimately involved in piracy isn’t exactly high. You have to worry about the British Navy, other crews, fights in port, and even treachery in the ranks of your own ship. It isn’t a Disney ride filled with whimsical “Yo, ho! It’s a pirate’s life for me.”
So, how many more people might bite the dust on tonight’s season 2 finale? Here are our thoughts:
Unlikely to leave the bounding main
Billy Bones, John Silver, and Captain Flint aren’t going anywhere in our opinion. If for no other reason, Black Sails is loosely based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, and that trio lives to old/middle age. There’s also so much more character development that can happen with these three. We won’t spoil it, but trust us, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
Balancing on the plank
Max, Eleanor Guthrie, and Mr. Scott all seem poised to go either way. Max and Eleanor have screwed enough people over, both literally and figuratively, that revenge is likely. Max needs to look over her shoulder from both Flint and Vane’s crews. Eleanor, in the clutches of the British, might choose suicide rather than captivity. As for Mr. Scott, he’s definitely the sacrificing heroic death type.
Getting up close and personal with Davy Jones
There are several people we think are fish food. We wouldn’t give Hornigold and Dufrene five minutes after any pirate catches up with them. They didn’t just betray Eleanor, they betrayed all pirates.
Other potential goners include Peter and Abigail Ashe. Given what Peter did to Thomas Hamilton, they seem prime candidates to get taken out. Abigail, not so much because she herself did anything, but we can easily see her getting in the way as an innocent bystander. She’s ripe for a tragic heroine ending.
Black Sails airs tonight at 9:00 ET/PT on Starz.
