Black Sails just wrapped its second season, and there were a ton of twists, cliffhangers, and turns.
Flint and Vane team up
Talk about politics making unlikely bedfellows, we doubt anyone would have picked Vane and Flint to be fighting side-by-side rather than fighting each other at the start of this season. When Vane comes to Flint’s trial, it’s obvious that he has something up his sleeve. He gives evidence, but more than that, he gives the signal to reign all hell down upon the inhabitants. Too bad the people in Charles Town didn’t talk to the people in Nassau, or the first thing they would have protected was their own fort. Vane simply takes a page out of his own book: takes the fort when no one is looking and in turn blasts the town and the harbor into oblivion.

John Silver’s turning point
John Silver has always been out for one thing, and that is himself. He’s played more sides against the middle to ensure his safety, and it finally caught up with him. More exactly, it cost him his leg. As fans of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island know, this was going to happen. All we are missing now is the moniker “Long John Silver.” We are thinking that nickname will surface in season 3.
It was surprising and admirable that Silver, the ultimate opportunist, did not cave in with a story that would save his leg. At the very least we thought he would concoct a story that would buy him time. Silver, the unlikeliest of heroes ends up having a moment of honor and holding his tongue. The final result is that he ends up quartermaster over both Billy Bones and Mr. Scott.
Jack and Ann reconcile
Jack Rackham and Anne Bonney might possibly have the only completely honest relationship on the island. They are perfectly willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead, but in the end they have each other’s backs, truly care about each other, and dare we say it, they love each other in a completely screwed up, yet not at all screwed up way. It’s actually fairly mind boggling and refreshing at the same time.
Sorry, Jack. You can’t tame Anne Bonny. #BlackSails pic.twitter.com/mtdXiEyaru

Max’s gamble pays off
Max puts all her enterprise’s savings into the recovery of the Urca gold, and by some bloody miracle, Anne Bonney and Jack Rackham are able to help her pull it off. The three of them, plus their crew, are richer than they ever imagined. At the same time, they now have the world’s largest target on their back. The Spanish, Flint, Vane, the British, and…well…frankly, everyone wants their stash. It’s going to be hell to hang onto it, but for now they are giddy with success.
Yes, Max. Gold is very shiny. #BlackSails pic.twitter.com/dnE0mHbEXd

The season 3 set-up
As much as season 2 gave us thrills of physical action and emotional drama, it has set up some amazing plot points for next year:
