At one time it looked like Benedict Cumberbatch would have a role in Star Wars: Episode VII, but the actor has finally denied it.
Benedict Cumberbatch had at one time been rumored to be in Star Wars: Episode VII, then the rumor was debunked, and then there was a possibility again when Cumberbatch talked openly about wanting to be in it.
Unfortunately, the actor has said that he will not be in the movie.
Australian publication The Iris live tweeted the Oz Comic Con where Cumberbatch was speaking, and the actor revealed this:
I would've liked a part in JJ's new Star Wars but it won't happen sadly

To us that sounds like Cumberbatch really wanted to be in it but that there was no way for him to make it work. After being coy about the possibility for all these months, he probably really did try. If there was never a good chance of it happening, he probably would have just come out and said so.
All the way back in September, Cumberbatch said this:
Of course I’d love to do Star Wars and work with J.J. Abrams again because we had such a good time on Star Trek. But nobody has been cast and there are no offers out to anyone apart from the regulars who are returning. So that’s that rumour quashed… We’ll have to wait and see.
Unfortunately it was not to be.
To further crush geek dreams, the fan favorite actor said this about potentially being in Doctor Who:
I'm never gonna play The Doctor, & nothing to do with the Whoniverse
