After a lengthy three-year search, Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch has found leads for his musical, God Help the Girl, with Elle Fanning (Super 8) and Olly Alexander (Enter the Void) circling the film.
As Variety’s Jeff Sneider reports:
Project began in late 2003 when Murdoch started writing a few songs that had a ‘girl group’ sound. The songs led to the concept album “God Help the Girl,” which was released in 2009 as a precursor to the film. Catherine Ireton sang the ‘part’ of Eve, the pic’s main character, who has yet to be cast.
Alexander will play James, a cynical guitarist who accompanies Eve’s singing and becomes a mentor to Cass (Fanning), an American teen who tags alongside the duo as she learns to play the guitar.
Barry Mendel, producer giant behind films ranging from Bridesmaids to The Sixth Sense, is producing the project which is slated to start filming in June. Are you interested?
