Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s fight choreographer recently revealed how Batman could withstand a fight against Superman in the upcoming film, and it doesn’t include kryptonite.
Since the announcement of the Batman v Superman title, fans have been curious how Batman could ever go one-on-one with Superman, considering he’s essentially unkillable. The film’s fight choreographer, Guillermo Grispo, says that the two superheroes will have two very different ways of battling one another.
In a new interview from Los Andes Diario, Grispo says, “There’s a thought that Batman has no chance [vs Superman], that the other will squash him like a bug. But when you see the movie, and how it all comes out, there’s a very intelligent explanation as to why they would have a firsthand confrontation though it seems to be totally to Batman’s disadvantage.”
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how they’ve set up these fights, as we know Superman to be the more powerful being, but apparently Grispo and Snyder have set the fights up in a way that will give Batman advantages. Grispo says that Batman is going to fight the way he’s always dreamed of seeing the fight on the big screen, with very powerful martial arts that he says other filmmakers haven’t been willing to try yet.
The fight choreographer says, “Even in the last Nolan movies the action scenes aren’t very good from a technical, martial arts point of view to things like choreography, filming, bad camera movements… But hey, don’t get me wrong, Nolan is great, my hats off to him. He makes fascinating stories, but I think that he did not pay too much attention to the fights. Those are the kind of details that Zack, being so physical himself, loves preparing. I think there’s going to be a big difference when you see these Batman fights in comparison to the previous ones.”
Despite whether fans agree with his opinion of the fight scenes in The Dark Knight trilogy, it does seem like he and Zack Snyder have gone with a different style of fighting in Batman v Superman, so that Batman can have a believable shot against Superman in Dawn of Justice.
We’ve been curious how the fights between the two superheroes would go down, and this gives us a little more insight into what we’ll be seeing in Batman v Superman. Hopefully Grispo is right, and director Zack Snyder has found a way to give Batman some distinct fighting style which will make it believable when he repels Superman’s attacks.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s release date is set for March 25, 2016. Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill will battle Ben Affleck as Batman, with Amy Adams reprising her role as Lois Lane.
