Back to the Future Day: The day Doc Brown and Marty McFly arrived in the DeLorean! And the world was ready.
On October 21, 2015, Back to the Future, Part II saw Doc and Marty arrive in a hilariously futuristic Hill Valley, California. Hoverboards and flying cars were a thing, people wore space fashion, and everything was pastel colored.
The actual day finally arrived, and the Internet lost its mind (as it rightfully should be: The Internet didn’t exist in Marty McFly’s 2015!).
We’ve rounded up some amazing examples of how the world celebrated Back to the Future Day — this truly is a glorious, nerdy time:
Doc Brown himself returned with a message
Everyone, stay calm: Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) has returned to give the humans of 2015 a very important message!
10/21/15! The Future is NOW! Doc Brown has a special message just for you. #BTTF2015

“The future has finally arrived. Yes, it’s different than we all thought, but don’t worry. That just means your future hasn’t been written yet,” Doc Brown says. “No one’s has. Your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one.”
That’s nice and all, but like, where’s the freeze-dried pizza?!
Time travel not allowed
South West Trains in the U.K. would like to remind travelers not to use their hoverboards inside the station:

You’d think we were going to Hogwarts.
USA Today printed its actual ‘Back to the Future, Part II’ front page
In Robert Zemeckis’ imagined 2015, newspapers are still alive and well. And luckily, that’s (sort of) also the case in the real world!
USA Today is thus able to release the front page we saw in the film!
We guess Pepsi won the soft drinks war
Sorry, Coke.
#LegalizeHoverboards2015
Despite the fact that the technology is not quite there yet, hoverboards are actually illegal!
Own one of these or thinking about getting one? They're illegal to ride in public! Info here: http://t.co/We85yLAzsU pic.twitter.com/vMm0hxNAjs

Luckily some BTTF superfans are working to repeal this particular law, parking a DeLorean in front of Parliament in London as a sign of protest:

Nike is planning… something?
We can’t WAIT to see what Nike has in store for us! Self-tying shoelaces? Special edition Marty McFly kicks? *maniacally refreshes Twitter feed*
.@realmikefox see you tomorrow.

Update: Nike, you benevolent overlords. Marty McFly’s self-tying shoes are actually gonna be a thing:

Surrey Police are total nerds
They’re just trying to make up for letting Harry Potter live in a cupboard for all those years.
'Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads!' But 88 in a 30 gets you points & a fine in all timelines. #BTTF2015 pic.twitter.com/sGLxpKy0WK

Essex and West Yorkshire police want in on the action, too
Seriously, it feels like police around the world are geeking out about Back to the Future more than anyone else.

Universal made an actual ‘Jaws 19’ trailer
It’s funny now, but hey, we’re counting 11 Fast & Furious movies. This particular prediction was eerily accurate…
