After voicing the titular character on the animated series Vixen, Megalyn Echikunwoke will be appearing on Arrow.
Echikunwoke voiced Mari McCabe, who Cisco nicknamed Vixen, on the six-part animated series that aired on CW Seed over the summer. The series served as an origin story for Mari, who inherited a magical totem that gave her the ability to channel the powers of animals. You can read our review of the animated series here.
Now Echikunwoke will reprise her role, this time in live action on Arrow, reports TV Insider. She will appear in Arrow season 4, episode 15.
Vixen took place in the Arrow-verse, and Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen), Grant Gustin (Barry Allen), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak) and Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon) all lent their voices to the series.
“We’re not only thrilled to be further expanding our DC television universe by bringing in the live-action incarnation of the CW Seed hit, Vixen, we’re immensely excited that Megalyn will be revisiting her role as Mari McCabe,” says executive producer Marc Guggenheim.
It makes a lot of sense that the Vixen character would appear on Arrow, as her story is one that also explores magic and mysticism, which is a theme Arrow is exploring in season 4. Additionally, it tightens the ties between the Arrow-verse properties.
Back in August, Echikunwoke was asked whether she would get the opportunity to transtion to live action and she replied, “I think that was kind of the impetus behind hiring me, just to have that option. Of course, we don’t know and I think it’s all based on how well this animated series does and how rabid the fans are for more Vixen. I’d love to play Vixen in live action; I’m into it.”
She added, “I think if it does end up being live action in any way, it’s really cool that I have this warm-up into the character and I really can create my own version of Vixen.”
Arrow season 4, episode 15 is set to air on February 24, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
