We look at our top moments from Arrow season 3, episode 17, “Suicidal Tendencies.”
Arrow season 3, episode 17, “Suicidal Tendencies,” featured a wedding, a hostage situation, a super suit, and some impostor Arrows. But what were the very best of the best moments?
Diggle’s protective tendencies
Diggle and Felicity have always had a brother-sister type relationship, and Diggle’s protective tendencies were on display before the wedding in one of the funniest moments in Arrow‘s recent history. When Diggle and Ray are introduced, they shake hands and Diggle informs Ray in a whisper, “You hurt her, they’ll never find your body.”
Diggle is former Special Forces, so Ray should take heed! Take care of that girl.
Diggle and Lyla tie the knot
It’s hard to beat a ceremony when the vows are “Do you really want to do this?” “Hell yeah, do you?” “Even more than the first time.” Everyone looked fantastic, and the vows were true to who Diggle and Lyla are. In a show that has some pretty complex romantic entanglements on the side of the superhero drama, it’s nice to see a less dramatic relationship play out to its happy ending.
Here’s hoping there’s not an upcoming gut punch with this couple, because we really enjoy Lyla and Diggle’s dynamic. Also, baby Sara is adorable.
Deadshot flashbacks
The flashbacks in this episode looked at Floyd Lawton’s backstory. He was a soldier who returned home to his wife and daughter but suffered from PTSD and eventually snapped, assaulting his wife with a gun in a chilling scene. This landed him in prison, where he was recruited by H.I.V.E. to become a contract killer.
This backstory gave a lot of insight into Lawton’s character and informed what we already knew about him. The most tragic part of this story is how real and relevant it felt.
Meet the Atom
Ray Palmer’s A.T.O.M. suit was in action this week after an initial flight around the city a few episodes ago. Ray officially became the newest vigilante on the scene after he tried to get justice through proper means only to be stonewalled by Laurel — who he realized was the Black Canary after discovering that Oliver was the Arrow. The suit was both Ray’s greatest strength and his greatest weakness, as it allowed him to overpower the Arrow but also left him vulnerable when the Arrow interrupted the mechanics.
With this tease of the suit’s abilities, we look forward to seeing it center stage in the upcoming spinoff.
Deadshot’s sacrifice
Arrow has done a lot with this character in limited appearances. He went from Diggle’s boogeyman and the murderer of his brother to someone Diggle could understand and work alongside. The culmination of this arc was Deadshot sacrificing himself to save the rest of the team — especially Diggle and Lyla, since they had a daughter to get home to, which made a lot of sense in light of the flashbacks. Who would have thought we’d be tearing up for Floyd Lawton?
But is he really dead? We’d be surprised.
Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
