The first trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s zombie drama Maggie gives us lots of The Last of Us feels.
While everyone’s been talking about Terminator: Genisys, Arnold Schwarzenegger has also been working on Maggie, a smaller family drama with a tragic zombie twist.

Directed by Henry Hobson, Maggie stars Arnie as Wade, whose daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) is infected by the zombie virus. The trailer reveals Wade’s heartbreaking decision to take his daughter home and care for her, despite the fact that she’s slowly transforming into a monster:
This looks like a great movie. But it also looks a lot like The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s groundbreaking zombie horror game first released in 2013.

The story is obviously different; The Last of Us picks up 20 years after the zombie apocalypse, and sees main character Joel transporting the teenage girl Ellie (whom he hardly knows) across the country.
Still, the theme is similar: an older man is protecting a young girl, as the world slowly succumbs to a mysterious infection. And it’s really in the tone, the cinematography and the music that we feel the resemblance the most.
Maggie will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 22, and see a limited released in the U.S. on May 8. It marks Henry Hobson’s debut as feature film director.
