The upcoming Captain America: Civil War has a lot to live up to. According to co-star Anthony Mackie, it will.
The Captain America movies just keep getting better, and the third instalment looks like it’ll be the most epic yet.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is considered one of the best Marvel movies, and with Joe and Anthony Russo back at the helm, Civil War will probably be more of the same.
Promoting his new movie Black and White, Anthony Mackie (who made his debut in Winter Soldier as Sam Wilson, aka. The Falcon) does his part to up our expectations.
“I will tell you this,” he told Fox DC, “Cap 3 is going to be everything you can imagine.”
Interestingly, Mackie went on to liken the Captain America films to The Avengers, saying, “Cap 2 was really Avengers 1.5, and Cap 3 is going to be Avengers 3.8.”
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released May 1, 2015, with Captain America: Civil War picking up the story almost exactly one year later, hitting cinemas on May 6, 2016.
The two-part Avengers finale, Infinity War parts 1 and 2, will be released in May 2018 and May 2019 respectively. The Russo brothers will take over from Joss Whedon, which certainly gives credit to Mackie’s comparison.
About his new Falcon suit, Mackie teased to Hollywood Chicago, “the new Falcon suit is gonna be much better than the old Falcon suit … you gotta rebuild.”
And speaking to Comic Book Movie, Mackie also offered some teasing comments about whether his character might be the next wielder of Captain America’s shield, if Chris Evans leaves the franchise.
In the comic books (beware of spoilers!), the Shield is passed to both Bucky (Sebastian Stan) and Sam, after Steve decides it’s time for him to grow old.
Whether or not the movies follow this plotline remains to be seen – but we almost can’t imagine the Avengers movies without Captain America!
