Marvel has released a new Ant-Man trailer, giving us our second look at Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, along with our first glimpse of Corey Stoll as the film’s villain Yellowjacket.
In today’s new Ant-Man trailer we see quite a bit of new footage, including Ant-Man flipping around in his epic-looking suit, and some shots of Corey Stoll as the film’s villain. As you can see in the preview, he’s looking to build a tiny soldier who can be used as a secret weapon.
Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) enlists Scott Lang to take on Darren Cross (Stoll), and when the enemy hears about the Ant-Man plan, he promises revenge. The best moment comes at the end when we see Ant-Man battling Yellowjacket atop a Thomas the Tank Engine train set — a play on classic train fight sequences. We recently got our first official look at Yellowjacket, also known as Darren Cross, who will be portrayed by House of Cards actor Corey Stoll. He looks even more lethal than Ant-Man, and it’ll be interesting to find out his backstory, considering we only know what’s known from the comics.
Michael Douglas will be playing Hank Pym, a biochemist who discovers an unusual set of subatomic particles he would label “Pym particles.” He would then discover that the serum was more powerful than he had expected, and is reduced to the size of an insect in the original comic. But in the film’s storyline, he doesn’t get turned into Ant-Man, he develops the formula and Scott Lang (played by Paul Rudd) will be the one turning into Ant-Man.
After director Peyton Reed took over to helm the troubled film, there haven’t been many changes, but we’ve seen a few actors join the film after the script was finished. One of the actors who joined the project late was Stoll.
It was back in August that we got our first look at Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, which revealed a much darker tone than we originally anticipated. Since then we’ve gotten a trailer and some other images from Marvel’s adaptation, and the movie continues to look more impressive than fans expected.
Rudd’s character is an ex-con and thief who ends up finding a mentor in Dr. Hank Pym, the genius inventor of the technology that allows him to shrink down to the size of an insect and increases the person’s strength.
Ant-Man will hit theaters July 17, 2015.
