While we’re still waiting for news on the second installment, Allegiant – Part 1 has officially begun filming.

Lionsgate announced Wednesday that the crew has set up in Atlanta to begin shooting the third movie in the quadrilogy.
Allegiant – Part 1 continues where Insurgent left off: Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) have discovered that there is life on the other side of the fence, and with Jeanine (Kate Winslet) dead at Evelyn (Naomi Watts)’s hand, they are — supposedly — free to discover the outside world.
Allegiant – Part 1 is directed by Robert Schwentke, who also directed Insurgent. We’ve got a new set of screenwriters this time around though: Noah Oppenheim, Adam Cooper, Bill Collage and The Perks of Being a Wallflower author Stephen Chbosky are all credited. Insurgent was written by Akiva Goldsman and Brian Duffield.

Returning cast members include Ansel Elgort, Octavia Spencer, Daniel Dae Kim, Maggie Q, Naomi Watts and Miles Teller. They are joined by newcomers Jeff Daniels (David), Bill Skarsgård (Matthew) and Nadia Hilker (Nita).
While some Divergent fans were left unsatisfied with Allegiant, the big changes the movie introduced in Insurgent has us wondering how different the final two movies will be from the books!
Allegiant – Part 1 is set to hit theaters on March 18, 2016. Allegiant – Part 2 is scheduled for March 24, 2017. It is unknown whether Robert Schwentke will return to direct the concluding instalment.
