Exciting news for DC fans and/or people who want to see some freakin’ ladies get their own superhero movie! Warner Brothers is planning a new, all-female superhero movie with Suicide Squad’s Margot Robbie.
The Hollywood Reporter says a script is currently in the works by a mystery female writer, and Margot Robbie is already attached to the project. In fact, the actress is reportedly deeply involved with the project, and characters being kicked around for the movie include Batgirl and Birds of Prey.
Interestingly, THR says the idea for a movie that focuses “on several of DC’s female heroes and villains” was dreamed up by Robbie, who fell in love with DC’s female super heroes and then brought the movie idea to Warner Brothers, who “snapped it up.”
It’s another sign that Warner Brothers is betting big on this August’s Suicide Squad, which has received lots of positive praise with the release of each trailer. It’s expected to be much better received that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which was panned by critics and had a mixed reaction from viewers.
It’s also a sign of WB and DC’s interest in spotlighting females, who haven’t received as much attention over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. DC will be beating Marvel to releasing a solo, female-led superhero movie when they release Wonder Woman next year. The only solo female movie on Marvel’s docket is Captain Marvel, who’s already been delayed twice.
