It’s time to check out of the AHS: Hotel. Was anyone else lucky enough to make it out alive?
Or were they lucky enough to remain forever? Lingering souls lurking the halls, blood-soaked carpets around every corner, Liz Taylor and Iris certainly had their work cut out for them when they take over the Hotel Cortez. All the money, fancy toilets, and minibars cannot keep Sally or the pain that ties spirits like her own to the Cortez for eternity.
So what became of your favorite characters from the AHS: Hotel installment?
Sally
Sally’s tale, though stifled for the entire season, paid off in dividends tonight as the addict traded one drug for another — goodbye heroine, hello social media. Needles for likes, Sally plunged into the world of wifi, Instagram filters, and YouTube videos starring Liz Taylor as a way to feel connected to the world without leaving her room.
Liz Taylor
“I know something about rebirth. Listen and learn.” A truer statement has yet to be uttered by anyone in the AHS franchise. Not only did Liz Taylor overthrow the establishment and issue a call to order for the resident murdering spirits, but she found purpose for herself through helping them. After Mr. March dolled out a timeline for the Cortez, Liz found a way to assuage Will Drake’s lust for blood.
Just because the outside world is void of Will Drake’s face, doesn’t mean it needs to live on without his designs. Liz Taylor straps on her best heels and takes charge of Drake’s company, issuing his designs, hosting exclusive fashion shows, and taking all meetings outside the Cortez. But the dead seem to be having all the fulfillment in life.
Iris offered Liz the gift of Billie Dean Howard, who would attempt to contact Tristan. Howard is successful, but Tristan’s lack of communication is intentional. Instead of dwelling on love lost to afterlife, Liz Taylor takes it in stride and finds joy in her son and daughter-in-law’s firstborn. Yet again, nothing good can last for the living.
The final strike against Liz’s life, ironically, is prostate cancer, which has spread to her spine. Instead of taking the risk of losing her hair and living in misery, Liz decides to let the family she loves indulge themselves at her expense — this time, however, she’d reap the reward. She’d be reborn in the Cortez once more. As the guests take up their weapons of choice, the Countess reveals herself for the first time to the masses since she died and does the honor of helping her friend.
Just as Tristan died, so did Liz. And just as Liz returned once more, so did Tristan. Liz Taylor has her happy ending with the man who sacrificed his own happiness until Liz lived out her own.
Iris
It’s always Saturday morning for Iris. When Billie Dean Howard attempted to communicate with Tristan, another spirit was hanging around the Cortez to let his mom know what the after life held. Parting with an “I love you,” Donovan and Iris both moved on from the mess they created together in the land of the living.
Mr. March
John was March’s masterpiece. Instead of seeing the Ten Commandment killings as his first chapter, March treated it as his epilogue. His new focus required taking charge of the spirits lurking in his hall of horrors. If the restless spirits wished to remain in their home without fear of what comes next, than one simple rule needed to be followed — stop the killing. In 2026, the Hotel Cortez becomes a historic landmark and is therefore safe forever. So long as Liz and Iris can give business a boost and Drake’s money does not run out, the Cortez will remain. What else does Mr. March have to keep him going? Well, his Devil’s Night gatherings for one thing.
The Lowe Family
It’s hard out there for a killer. Devil’s Night 2022 brings back an unaged John Lowe. Is it possible that Wes Bently would look that fantastic after six years of killing to provide for his family? Sure. What is more likely, however, is that he is dead. Not only dead, but his death occurred outside of the Hotel Cortez. Once more, Billie Dean Howard is brought to the Hotel Cortez to tell the story of the deceased Ten Commandments Killer, John Lowe.
As public figures, both John Lowe and Billie Dean Howard, capture the imagination of the world. Billie chooses to film numerous specials in the Hotel Cortez that lures some unsavory visitors, namely people who are looking for sex with ghosts. John finally grants her the interview of a lifetime in Room 64. When John left the Cortez with his family, they needed to live on the run due to Holden and Alexis’ blood lust. But unable to provide human blood, it is Scarlett who leads her tired father back to where a family like theirs belongs — the Cortez.
One final time, John sends Scarlett away to boarding school and resides with Holden and Alexis for the remainder of his days. That is, until he is caught and shot just outside the hotel sidewalk. In order to reveal the importance of why John’s presence only appears on October 30, John decides to invite Billie Dean to a little gathering upstairs.
Souls of Cortez’s Past
Marcy reads her erotic novels, The Swedish tourists have developed a love affair with the porn star, and Darren Criss is still muttering about kale somewhere. Ramona remains with the spirits when she is not fulfilling her lust for blood outside the walls.
The Countess
Aside from killing her friend, the Countess still finds ways of keeping herself entertained inside the Hotel Cortez. Valentino may no longer be around, but there is no shortage of jawlines in Los Angeles.
Be sure to check back for more details about AHS‘s sixth installment, which will return Fall 2016.
