AHS: Hotel stirred up many, many questions following the premiere episode. Here are the top five that need answering this season.
How many questions were you left with when the final credits rolled on the AHS: Hotel premiere? It took a while to digest the intertwining plots, the massive cast list, and the bloody orgy. We are still not quite over that last one. Now that AHS has us hooked in for another season, let’s boil down the questions we want to see answered this season at the Hotel.
How many villains are there?
After losing his son a few years ago in Santa Monica, Detective John Lowe threw himself into his work hunting a serial killer dubbed The Ten Commandments Killer. We wager that audiences have yet to see this killer in action. His crimes, however, we certainly got more than a taste of in the premiere.
Focusing on the commandment, “Thou shall not commit adultery,” for his latest crime, the killer superglued a couple in the act of cheating on their spouses before nailing them to the headboard and cutting out their eyes and tongue. Rather grotesque, yes, but the result was a welcome alternative to seeing the killer in the act.
There is another villain, however, who may be more of a master in need of sacrifice than a serial killer. The Addiction Demon, so named by Ryan Murphy, brutally assaults those in need of a fix of heroin until Sally comes to offer them passage from this world. But its latest victim, Max Greenfield’s Gabriel, wakes up at the close of Act II leading us to ask our next question…
Who is alive?
As we witnessed in the premiere, Sally fell from the hotel window after Iris confronted her for killing her son. The amount of blood that spilled from her cranium certainly pointed to death by impact. However, that event took place well before the Gabriel checked into the hotel and answered Sally’s call. So is she alive? Or is this another Murder House situation where the dead walk among the living?
Donovan certainly looked down and out after shooting up more than he could handle. The Countess, however, seems to have an unnatural ability to resurrect those she deems worthy of joining her cultish ensemble. The price? A thirst for blood. We know already that The Countess and Donovan both share the same blood curse, but does this make them immortal? And what is she planning to do with all of those children who can exist on human flesh and candy alone? From the looks of it the missing child of Detective Lowe, Harlan, did not age a day since he disappeared.

How is this place connected to the other seasons?
Our first call back to the AHS anthology was the return of Marcy, the real estate agent who sold the Murder House in season one. This time she is in the business of selling the pent house of the Hotel Cortez to Cheyenne Jackson’s character, Will Drake. Murphy already confirmed that the series will return to the Murder House at some point this season, but we can’t help but think that the connections run deeper in Hotel. Who are the other AHS guests that once checked in?
What is Liz Taylor’s backstory
Forget all the killing and the twists and turns of the Hotel Cortez. We are far more interested in hearing the tales from Liz Taylor’s glory days. The bar maid and occasional front desk help, played by the wildly transformative Denis O’Hare, is simply oozing with mysteries of her own. She has seen the hotel through the years, even before Iris came onto the scene, but what led her to take up residence at the Cortez? What is it about that place that has a hold on her?
What happened in Room 64?
The Hotel Cortez was built in the 1930s by Mr. March who has yet to make his debut this season. Room 64 used to house Mr. March’s office and some shady deals and transactions went down behind closed doors. It is no wonder that the frequent guests who pay a visit to room 64 are only due for temporary stays. The two Swedish tourists who check in at the top of the episode sit tight before the clock in the room awakens one of them to discover a pair of young children enjoying a sip of her friend’s blood.
Gabriel also spends an abbreviated amount of time in room 64 before he succumbs to the force of the Addiction Demon. Soon after that, even before the body is disposed, the room is visited by John Lowe who received an anonymous tip, likely from his serial killer, to pay a visit to the space. Finding nothing suspicious Lowe dozes off before being awoken by the clock at 2:25. The clock is another interesting centerpiece of the room. Is it rewinding time? What exactly is the significance of 2:25?
