Luke Mitchell, who plays Lincoln, will take on a larger role in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3.
Mitchell joined Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. after the winter hiatus of season 2, and has now been upgraded to a series regular. His character Lincoln, a young man with electricity powers, was one of the first roles openly acknowledged as an Inhuman.
Lincoln played a largely functional role through most of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., helping introduce Skye to the Inhumans, and providing a few mild romantic sparks with Chloe Bennet’s character. But the season 2 finale suggested that deeper matters might be compelling Mitchell’s character, as the now-deceased Gordon alluded to Jaiying having rescued Lincoln from highly unfavorable circumstances.
Executive Producer Jeph Loeb also hinted that fans can expect further intrigue from the spark-powered Inhuman.
“Luke proved a valuable addition to our cast in Season 2,” Loeb said, “And after seeing him light up the screen with his charisma we knew we had to have him back for more. Our writers have come up with big plans for the character of Lincoln in our next season, and we can’t wait for fans to see everything we have in store.”

Personal history aside, it makes sense that Mitchell’s character will have plenty to do in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3. Toward the end of the season 2 finale, Coulson charged Skye with building a secret team of powered people — and if he agrees to join S.H.I.E.L.D., Lincoln would make an obvious candidate for the crew.
Mitchell, who previously starred on the CW’s The Tomorrow People, offered no hints about his character’s future plot lines. Still, his enthusiasm was evident.
“So EXCITED about this!!!” Mitchell wrote on Twitter.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 will debut in September.
