Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D used their panel at San Diego Comic-Con to announce the new faces joining the show for its second season.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 only began filming yesterday, so unfortunately there was no new footage to show the eager Comic-Con audience. Instead, the creative team took the chance to announce several new casting moves.

Executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen confirmed the news that broke earlier this week: the Xena: Warrior Princess herself, Lucy Lawless, will be joining the team. Lawless will join the series as a S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran, who has a knife that is “always by her side.”
Joining Lawless is British newcomer Nick Blood (real name), who will play a mercenary who Coulson (Clark Gregg) will reach out to in his new capacity as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. It is unclear exactly whose side Blood will be on, but what is clear is that Coulson will be forced to resort to more dubious means to rebuild his team.
The final announcement was of Reed Diamond, who will be joining the show as another HYDRA adversary for our S.H.I.E.L.D. heroes. Diamond has appeared on The Mentalist and Bones, and has worked with Clark Gregg previously on another Whedon production – Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing, in which he played Don Pedro.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was featured at the Marvel Television Presents panel alongside the upcoming Agent Carter, which is set to premiere during the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 mid-season break. Stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge were all in attendance, along with executive producers Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jed Whedon.
Fans were also treated to a bloopers reel from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, and luckily for those who were not in attendance, they will be able to catch the footage on the season 1 DVD. A Comic-Con exclusive video was also shown, starring Patton Oswalt as Agent Koenig (and another Agent Koenig), who explained to the audience the importance of lanyards.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 will premiere on September 23, 2014.
