Here’s our first look at Nick Blood as Lance Hunter, an English mercenary who will join the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2.
As the premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 draws closer, the details are steadily coming into sharper focus. Now we have our first look at a brand new character who will be joining the regular cast – actor Nick Blood in the role of British mercenary Lance Hunter.
The image comes from an Entertainment Tonight gallery, and gives fans the first taste of a character who will surely shake things up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2.
At the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel at San Diego Comic-Con, producer Jeff Bell teased the role of Lance Hunter, promising that fans will be enthusiastic about the character. Though in the comics, Hunter leads the British intelligence agency S.T.R.I.K.E., Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 will introduce the character as a mercenary.
“Coulson is reaching out everywhere he can, and frequently that is under rocks and in dark corners,” Bell said. “He finds this young man who comes in and helps with the team.”
But all may not be perfectly copacetic where Hunter is involved. As the image above indicates, the young man may have something of a chip on his shoulder – and showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen told Entertainment Weekly that his loyalties are still very much in question.
“[Hunter] is in it for the money, not the cause,” she said. “Whether his allegiance is to anyone but himself is still in question.”
Oh good, more suspicion. Just what our blood pressure needed.
Other images from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 have also been released recently, including a badass Skye, a weary Coulson, and the razor-sharp Lucy Lawless as Agent Isabelle Hartley. And as the new season has bulked up the cast considerably, we certainly expect to see more new images of good guys, bad guys, and probably a few aliens before too long.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 will return at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23 on ABC.
