Here’s what happened on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 7, “The Hub.”
Coulson is captured by men who like mold
To rescue an agent left out in the cold
The agent, rechristened “The Interrogator”
Joins in without even a “See you guys later!”
Then back on the Bus, they pull out of his nose
A capsule with all of the info he… knows.
The team takes the news to a place called The Hub
Where elbows of all different agents can rub.
The only one left out of place is young Skye
Not yet Level 1! (Couldn’t start to think why.)
Coulson ignores all her pleading and jokes,
But still he agrees to check out for her folks.
Coulson and May meet Victoria Hand
The agent in charge of the mission she planned
To disarm a Russian bomb called “Overkill”
She turns to Grant Ward, who’s like “Of course I will.”
But then she sets all of their brains on the fritz
By hinting the team’s second member is Fitz.
Simmons is nervous and packs Fitz a lunch
His darlingest sandwich – he loves it a bunch
Skye is suspicious of their secret mission
But Coulson just tells her to “Trust in the system.”
Fitz and Ward start off on kind of a blunder
It turns out their contact is now six feet under
But Fitz figures out how to get them set free
Turns out all it took was to fix the TV.
When Hand says that Coulson’s in Fury’s good graces
He finds himself mentioning “magical” places.
Skye pesters Coulson for info in vain
‘He acts like a robot,’ she unwisely complains.
May does tai chi, and Coulson’s unhappy
He sort of agrees that S.H.I.E.L.D.’s system is crappy.
Skye pulls in Simmons to her quest for dirt
And poor Agent Sitwell’s the one who gets hurt
(While Simmons might think that the whole thing was fun,
We’d keep her away from the new Night-Night gun.)
While hacking the frame, Skye uncovers her file
But shuts it to check in on Fitz and Ward’s trial
She learns, to her horror and utter distraction
Her friends have been left without plan for extraction.
Coulson is livid that Skye snuck that look
The rules are the reason they can go off-book
She asks if he knew they were sent out to die
But all Coulson answers is “That’s classified.”
Fitz and Ward sleep in a drainpipe – romantic!
With Ward such a hardass and Fitz so pedantic
Fitz offers a part of his sandwich to Ward
Who throws it away, which is SO overboard
A furious Fitz goes all nasty and grim
But Ward says his orders are “Take care of him.”
They hitch on a truck using sandy disguises
Encountering just one or two more surprises
The plan goes so smoothly, it’s practically humming
‘Til Ward starts to realize that no one is coming.
Coulson is mad and he raises his voice
Because Agent Hand refused his team a choice.
As Fitz kills the Overkill, Ward breaks the news
But Fitz keeps his calm and unhooks the last fuse
He’s not jealous Ward saved his friend from the blue –
But Coulson told him to take care of Ward too.
The bros work as one to escape from the place
Fitz using tech, Ward his hands, chains and face
And just as it seems that they won’t get away
The Bus comes to save them – hey, thanks Agent May!
For official extraction, there just was no need
As Hand knew that Coulson couldn’t not intercede.
Back on the Bus, Fitz is sweetly fictitious
Telling Simmons her sandwich was very delicious
Coulson tells Skye she was left at the home
By a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent whose name and face are unknown
But Coulson knows more than he’s willing to say
And for help with the mystery, recruits Agent May.
In the tag, Coulson logs an official entreaty
For records on someone who healed in Tahiti
But it turns out that S.H.I.E.L.D. may have something to hide;
His access to all of that stuff is denied.
