Lyndsy Fonesca has joined the cast of Marvel’s Agent Carter, in the role of a female friend for the title character.
Marvel’s upcoming miniseries Agent Carter has added several exciting characters to its cast, but up ’til now, none of the additions have been women. That streak was broken today, when Marvel announced that actress Lyndsy Fonesca has been cast in the role of Angie Martinelli.
An aspiring actress in post-war New York City, Angie will connect with Peggy Carter and become a supportive figure in the British agent’s life. According to Jeph Loeb, Fonesca “brings a warmth and humanity to Angie, who’ll be the friend Peggy needs if she’s to survive the dangers that lie ahead.”
Fonesca is perhaps best known for her role as Alexandra Udinov in the CW’s Nikita. She has also appeared on Desperate Housewives and How I Met Your Mother, and also had a role in the Kick Ass films.
Agent Carter‘s cast now includes Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, and James D’Arcy as Edwin Jarvis. On the spy-side of things, Shea Whigham will star as Scientific Strategic Reserve Chief Roger Dooley, Enver Gjokaj will play Agent Daniel Sousa, and Chad Michael Murray will play Agent Jack Thompson.
Set in New York City in 1946, Agent Carter will follow Peggy as she builds S.H.I.E.L.D. – and continues the fight against lingering HYDRA infiltrators. On a personal level, Peggy will cope with her continued grief at losing Steve Rogers, while asserting herself as female leader and spy in the regressive atmosphere of post-war America.
Agent Carter will be helmed by Resurrection showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas. Early episodes will be directed by Captain America: The Winter Solider directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and possibly Joe Johnson of Captain America: The First Avenger.
Marvel’s Agent Carter will air on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. on ABC in early 2015.
