Hanya Yanagihara’s A Little Life has been picked up for a limited TV series by two Hollywood producers, and now the search is on for a place who’ll host the TV show.
In an Instagram post Tuesday morning, Yanagihara announced that A Little Life’s big screen adaptation rights have been picked up by producer Scott Rudin and director Joe Mantello. A search is currently on for a TV network or streaming service who’ll go in on the deal.
“Now it just has to be sold to a network or streaming service — and we’ll let you know when or if it is,” Yanagihara writes. “Thank you, as always, for all of your interest and your love for the boys, and keep your fingers crossed! (Also, who should play Jude?)”
Its paperback edition clocking in at a whopping 832 pages, A Little Life was published in January and quickly became a must-read (This writer knows several people who are obsessed with the book). The quick pace at which the book’s adaptation rights were picked up speaks to how well the book’s been received.
As Amazon describes it, A Little Life “follows four college classmates — broke, adrift, and buoyed only by their friendship and ambition — as they move to New York in search of fame and fortune.”
“While their relationships, which are tinged by addiction, success, and pride, deepen over the decades, the men are held together by their devotion to the brilliant, enigmatic Jude, a man scarred by an unspeakable childhood trauma.”
“A hymn to brotherly bonds and a masterful depiction of love in the twenty-first century, Hanya Yanagihara’s stunning novel is about the families we are born into, and those that we make for ourselves.”
Mantello is perhaps best known for directing the theatrical production of Wicked, while Scott Rudin is known for producing tons of projects including No Country for Old Men, The Social Network, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
