President Heller lives up to his word on 24 season 9, episode 8. Check out our recap, and share your thoughts on “Day 9: 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.”
Just as 24 runs in realtime, so do our recaps. Here is everything that happened in episode 8:
Previously on 24
Every week the biggest bragging rights on 24 belong to those characters who get their name shouted out in the opening credits. This week it’s:
Naveed Shabazz
Simone Al-Harazi
CIA Head of Station Steve Navarro
Chief of Staff Mark Boudreau
Margot Al-Harazi
Naveed, back from the dead! Naveed hasn’t been on the show or on this Earthly plane for upwards of four hours, but still gets a pre-credits shout-out. That’s respect.
6:00 p.m. – 6:09 p.m.
Simone has taken a turn for the worse and the C.I.A. doctors are really smug about explaining their medical terminology. Dr. Exposition says that they may have some drugs to wake Simone up but the process will certainly kill her.
Margot shares details of her conversation with Heller with her son as they flee their lovely British mansion. If Heller turns himself over, she will agree to destroy all of the drones. After all: “If a murderer like Heller can keep his word, then so can I.”
Heller similarly brings his surrogate son, Jack, into the fold. Jack tells Heller that the United States does not negotiate with terrorists, but Heller says soon he will no longer be the United States because… Alzheimer’s? Jack reluctantly agrees to help get Heller to Wembley Stadium to turn himself in to Margot.
Meanwhile, Jordan is out of the water and looking for a safe place.
6:13 p.m. – 6:21 p.m.
Jack had asked President Heller to get someone on his staff to help with the Wembley extraction. Clearly Heller misheard that as “find a duplicitous worm,” so Boudreau is now also in the fold. At least Mark has some astute observations about the situation vis a vis his wife. “She’s never gonna forgive me for this.” Probably not, Mark. Heller gets a sneaky goodbye with Audrey, who doesn’t even realize it’s a goodbye.
Jack calls Kate, slightly peeved that Simone is not up yet, and pushes her to get the doctors to do so. The doctors give Simone the drug concoction and she wakes up long enough to give the location of their mansion as well as details of some files Naveed hid beneath the floorboards. So THAT’S why Naveed was in the “previously on” segment!
6:25 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Poor Jordan gives his position away to Navarro, who immediately directs the assassin there. We’re starting to think Navarro may not be a good C.I.A Head of Station.
Jack, with help of Boudreau’s scheduling skills, guides the President out of the building. Of course he can’t resist knocking out one secret service agent.
6:37 p.m. – 6:47 p.m.
Heller and Jack reach a helicopter and Jack helpfully announces it’s 10 minutes to Wembley. Jordan somehow dispatches his would-be killer for good and tells him he knows Navarro sent him to kill him, he just doesn’t know why yet.
The C.I.A. tactical team has indeed found a disc. They upload back to Kate, who sends it off to Chloe, who is being hit on by drunken Englishmen in a pub, for decrypting. Chloe confirms that Simone was right and there may be a way inside the system but she is just running out of time.
6:51 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Adrian Cross confirms with Navarro that Jordan has been taken care of (whoops), then puts on his nice guy voice to call Chloe. He says he found a new headquarters and would love her back but Chloe is a little busy ATM.
Audrey finds a letter that Heller has left her and is quite reasonably upset at Mark for not telling her. Don’t worry, Audrey, it’s not like they would kill a sitting President on this show. Right?
Jack and Heller arrive at Wembley. Jack gets a presidential pardon for his troubles. Chloe is ultimately unable to extract anything from the disc in time so Heller marches out to midfield at the stadium.
Margot confirms that the figure standing on the field is the President, aims her P.C. joystick, fires and… holy crap did they just do that??
Yep, 24 has finally killed a sitting President. Cutting 12 hours off of a day makes you do crazy things.
