The award season train is moving full speed ahead, and last night’s 2015 Critics’ Choice Awards honored the usual suspects – with a few notable exceptions.
Four days after the Golden Globes and just a few short hours after the Oscar nomination ceremony, the 2015 Critics’ Choice Awards were handed out in Hollywood.
Birdman was the big winner of the night, picking up seven awards in major categories.
Glancing down the winners’ list (see below), you probably won’t find many surprises: like at the Golden Globes, Michael Keaton (Birdman) and Julianne Moore (Still Alice) took home the Best Actor/Actress awards, and it was another Best Director win for Boyhood‘s Richard Linklater.

Other double wins include Patricia Arquette (Boyhood) for Best Supporting Actress, J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) for Best Supporting Actor, John Legend’s “Glory” (from Selma) for Best Song, and of course Boyhood for Best Picture.
But there were a few new categories included at the Critics’ Choice Awards, which at least allowed some movies which have been generally overlooked this awards season to shine.
The Lego Movie, which was left out of the Oscars’ nominations list, won the award for Best Animated Feature at the Critics’ Choice Awards (beating out almost all the films nominated for an Oscar), while Guardians of the Galaxy picked up Best Action Movie.
Emily Blunt won Best Actress in an Action Movie for Edge of Tomorrow, while Bradley Cooper won Best Actor in an Action Movie for American Sniper.
Take a look at the full list of winners below. Are the right movies reaping all the glory?
