In a (very) brief teaser for the second season, Penny Dreadful reminds us that some curses could also be blessings. Season 1 spoilers.
More than a few characters in Penny Dreadful have found themselves to be cursed in the last season, and Eva Greene’s Vanessa Ives reminds us of that in the latest trailer for season 2.
“The time came when I learned that the curse was also something of a blessing,” Ives says over a montage of herself, Ethan Chandler, Dorian Gray, and Sir Malcolm Murray. A quote appropriate for all of the characters, as Ives was revealed to still have the demon inside of her at the end of last season. Dorian Gray, of course, was cursed with immortality, and Ethan was revealed as a werewolf in the finale.
Notably missing from the second season trailer is Victor Frankenstein and his monster(s). At the end of the season, Billy Piper’s character, Brona Croft, had died and Victor had begun the process of making her Caliban’s wife. We can only assume he’ll be successful, as Billie Piper is still billed to be a part of the second season.
And don’t forget that this year the season isn’t going to only revolve around Vanessa, Ethan and Malcolm like it did last year. It was revealed at Comic-Con this summer that Madam Kali will play the part of the major antagonist in season 2, along with Ferdinand Lyle, who will be Kali’s unwilling partner in crime. There was even a scene cut from the finale that will be included in this year’s premiere, which sets the foundation for Madam Kali’s arc.
