In the cold open, which began as a Christmas special with Sam Smith (played by Taran Killam), was then interrupted by Dr. Evil, played by SNL alum Mike Meyers! The Austin Powers character spoofed Kim Jong Un and the latest developments of the North Korean hacks.
In Amy Adams’s opening monologue, she gets a surprise visit from SNL alum Kristen Wiig who showed up to sing a few incorrect lyrics to help spread the Christmas cheer.
SNL chimed in on the recent buzzworthy podcast Serial in which Cecily Strong portrays Sarah Koenig investigating how kids are getting gifts on the morning of December 25. The investigation into Kris Kringle as the perpetrator of the offense is absolutely hysterical for anyone who has listened to Serial this season.
Aidy Bryant and Cecily Strong reprised their fun skit Girlfriends Talk Show on last night’s episode as well. It also featured a surprise cameo with the dance team played by One Direction!
During Weekend Update, former regulars Garth and Kat (Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen) came back to spread some Christmas cheer to promote their new album which was actually The Hunger Games sound track. Check out the hilariousness below!

It was announced during the broadcast that SNL would return January 17 with host Kevin Hart, though no musical guest was named at this time.
