J.K. Rowling Robert Galbraith’s Cormoran Strike books are heading to television, the author announced today.
The news comes just months before the BBC releases their book-to-television adaptation of Rowling’s first post-Potter novel, The Casual Vacancy.
Rowling tweeted on Wednesday afternoon that “Robert Galbraith’s first novel is going to be a TV drama on BBC One.”
My friend @RGalbraith's first novel is going to be a TV drama on @BBCOne. He's very excited, but expressing it with characteristic silence.

The first novel in the Cormoran Strike series is The Cuckoo’s Calling. The sequel The Silkworm was published earlier this year.
Rowling has said that she has plans for at least six more Cormoran Strike novels, so this new BBC One adaption has the potential to run for several series.
There’s no word yet on when/if the Strike television series will run in America, but presumably the plan is to make that happen. The BBC could air it on BBC America, or they could team up with HBO like they are doing for The Casual Vacancy miniseries.
A formal announcement about the Cormoran Strike television series is expected soon.
As of July Rowling/Galbraith was already halfway through working on book three in the Cormoran Strike series, which the author says “will be centered around the experience of returning soldiers.”
“I love writing these books,” Rowling said at a promotional event for The Silkworm over the summer. “One of the things I love about this genre is that – unlike Harry [the Harry Potter series] where there is an overarching story, here you are talking about discrete stories. So as long as your detective lives you can give him cases.”
We’re big fans of Robert Galbraith’s work so far and can’t wait for this new show.
