Doug Judy is back in a way that frustrates Jake but gives Rosa a big win tonight on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, season 2, episode 10, “The Pontiac Bandit Returns.”
After slipping through his fingers once before, Jake Peralta is once again on the hunt to capture the Pontiac Bandit (guest star Craig Robinson). After knocking over a telephone pole and subsequently setting a Christmas Tree display on fire, Jake and Rosa bring him into the precinct in handcuffs.
But the Bandit – Doug Judy – is not concerned. He knows he’s going to cut a deal with them to get a reduced sentence. He offers to name names, but Holt, Rosa and Jake aren’t interested until Judy mentions Giggle Pig.
We’re now ten episodes into Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 2 and Rosa is getting very desperate for a Giggle Pig win. As Holt details, his job, Rosa’s job, and the entire precinct’s future rests on the fate and hopeful success of the drug task force that has chosen to set it’s sights on Giggle Pig and it’s leader, Tito Ruiz.
Holt does offer a reduced sentence, five years instead of twenty in jail, and he demands to be put up in a four-star hotel until they capture Ruiz. After that, Judy ensures Jake and Rosa that he is playing ball with them, going with the flow. Jake sneaks a tracker into his shoe, they order room service lobster, and get the okay to meet up with Ruiz.
Once they break into a car to prove Ruiz can work with them, he takes them to his Giggle Pig factory. It’s not long before a dumpster backs into the wall, Judy jumps on the back of it, Ruiz takes off in the opposite direction. Jake has to make a tough call: go after Judy, the one who got away once already, or Ruiz, the one they need to take down in order to protect their jobs. He chooses the latter and is able to cuff him.
Later at the holiday party, Rosa thanks Jake for making that hard call. She was able to take down the entire Giggle Pig network and cannot stop smiling as a result.
Gina and Boyle: step-siblings?
In a weird twist of fate, after Charles and Gina broke up a few weeks ago, their parents really hit it off. Charles comes in tonight looking to get Gina to help him open a present he found that his father was intending to give to Gina’s mother. Gina slices the paper open with her decorated nails and instead of his-and-hers pajamas, or a romantic book, like either of them thought, it’s a weight scale. It doesn’t look good, and the two devise a plan to have a strange double-date type dinner to exchange gifts.
When Gina’s mom opens it, she’s thrilled. Turns out, the two are planning to move in together and the scale is for the guest bedroom. Gina takes it as well as we could expect her to, and Boyle seems to well, accept it, at the very least.
Amy doesn’t brown-nose her boss.
Okay, that statement is pretty much a lie, as that is one of Amy Santiago’s defining qualities, but tonight, she tried to please Holt so much, she inadvertently cracked open on of his cases. Holt doesn’t want a gift – defined as ‘anything you spend money on’ and because Amy’s time is worth nothing (lies!), she scrapbooks all of his cases. While doing so, she realizes that Brooklyn Broiler was wrongly accused of setting a few fires.
She points out the mistake to Holt while presenting her present (“From Ray to Z”). Holt explains he doesn’t like gifts because he doesn’t like brown-nosing, but he respects Amy for telling him, to his face, that he made a mistake. In return, he invites her to look through the evidence to find the person who did set those fires. Amy is thrilled.
