The newest contender for the prestigious Bond 24 villain role is Sherlock actor Andrew Scott, who has allegedly been “hand-picked” by the producers.
Last month, we reported that Christoph Waltz was up for the role of villain in Bond 24, the upcoming James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig.
However, the Daily Mirror claims to have revealed the actor set for the pivotal role: Sherlock‘s Andrew Scott, whose memorable turn as Moriarty definitely makes him a prime suspect.
But just how reliable is this report? The Mirror is known for its questionable sources, and the fact that they’re unwilling to reveal the name of their “insider” has us question the validity of their scoop.
The Mirror quotes the insider as saying, “Andrew was hand-picked for a role in the new Bond movie after film bosses loved his star turn in Sherlock. Casting directors thought he was perfect to play a baddie and they wanted to use his existing Sherlock profile – and amp it up to the next level.”
For what it’s worth, it would be an excellent bit of type-casting – but it’d be type-casting none the less. Do you think Scott would be willing to take on a role so similar to Moriarty, even if it would propel him to the big screen?
Note that the Mirror still lists Christoph Waltz as one of the actors attached to this project, which means that even if Andrew Scott has indeed be cast, there could be more than one villain lying in wait. After all, there usually are.
Sam Mendes returns to direct Bond 24, which has been given a tentative release date of October 25, 2015.
