Parks and Recreation will be back in January for its seventh and final season, NBC announced today.
In a press release, NBC has announced that Parks and Recreation will premiere its seventh season on Tuesday, January 13, with back-to-back episodes from 8-9 p.m. ET/PT. The beloved comedy starring Amy Poehler will be airing two back-to-back episodes every week throughout the duration of the final season leading up to an emotional hour-long series finale on Tuesday, February 24, following the latest episode of The Voice.
The return of the series found a great time slot for its premiere. The 72nd Annual Golden Globes, which will be co-hosted by Tina Fey and Parks’ Amy Poehler for another year, will air January 11, just two days earlier.
NBC executives had nothing but positive things to say about the series, which struggled in the ratings but had a loyal and devoted following for its unique comedy perspective. “Critics, viewers and all of us at NBC fell in love with this endearing, funny, heartfelt show and its authentic cast of characters,” added Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. “After seven amazing seasons, saying goodbye to the folks of Pawnee will be bittersweet, so we want to give the show and its fans the most impactful final season possible.”
It was recently announced that fan-favorites Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones would return to the series after their departure from the show last season.
