Stephen King’s The Stand will be adapted into a four-part movie series, directed by Josh Boone. Allegedly, Matthew McConaughey is set to be the main villain of the piece.
Last week we reported that The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone has taken the reins on The Stand, the adaptation of Stephen King’s epic, 1200-page post-apocalyptic horror story.
Boone penned a single-movie script, but as per Warner Bros.’ suggestion, the book will now be split into four movies. Speaking about this decision, Boone said, “I was willing to drop [my original script] in an instant because you’re able to do an even truer version this way.”
He also promised “a cast that’s going to blow people’s minds,” and it looks like he was right.
According to British newspaper The Guardian, Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey is set to play main villain Randall Flagg.
The book follows a small group of human survivors, who struggle to co-exist after a virus wipes out 99.4% of the human population. It’s a struggle for dominance as society crumbles, and our heroes aren’t only battling the natural elements.
Randall Flagg is described as, “an accomplished sorcerer and a devoted servant of the Outer Dark,” appearing in The Stand as a demonic cowboy (!) who wreaks havoc as the world collapses.
Interestingly, the character appears in a total of nine different Stephen King novels, including The Dark Tower series.
The only other actor currently attached to the project is Nat Wolff, who’ll likely be playing an original character.
