Thor actor Chris Hemsworth nabs the title of Sexiest Man Alive 2014, crowned by People Magazine and revealed by the almost-as-sexy Jimmy Kimmel.
Joining the ranks of studs like Bradley Cooper, Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman, George Clooney and Denzel Washington, Australian actor Chris Hemsworth (31) has been named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2014.
This was announced late last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where the actor appeared via Skype to thank the People:
It’s a pretty funny segment, in which Kimmel first disguises Hemsworth and makes the audience members guess his identity, and then continues a long-running show joke by asking Hemsworth how it feels to beat out Matt Damon (who was honoured with the title in 2007).
Hemsworth has the perfect response, which probably wasn’t to Kimmel’s liking: “I learned everything there is about being sexy from Matt [Damon].”
He thanks his parents for “putting this together,” and reveals that he and his brother Liam Hemsworth (who currently stars in Mockingjay, Part 1) have been “throwing sexy looks back and forth for a while,” practicing those all-important lip-pursing and squinting techniques.

The People issue featuring Chris Hemsworth will be in stores on Friday. “Runners-up” (not really) also featured on the cover are Idris Elba and Chris Pratt, who are probably kicking themselves right now wishing they could have tried to be just a little more sexy.
It is perhaps not surprising that a prominent superhero star would be this year’s pick, and there’s certainly no denying that Hemsworth has made himself worthy of the title.
A total of 29 Sexiest Men Alive have been crowned by People Magazine over the years, the first being Mel Gibson in 1985. John F. Kennedy, Jr. and last year’s winner Adam Levine are the only non-actors on the list.
