The Vampire Diaries season 6, episode 7, “Do You Remember the First Time?” aired last night and our Delena hearts are still recovering.
Love Blows
Elena and Damon finally meet face to face, but nothing is really coming back to Elena so she apologizes and closes the door on him. Damon then visits Alaric in the hospital, who’s sorry he compelled her feelings away. While there, Jo comes to release Alaric from the hospital and tells him she’s inviting him to a hospital fundraiser that night.
Caroline talks with Elena and she thinks a break from Damon is good for her, especially since she has Liam. Speaking of which, Liam shows up. He’s amazed that the girl who Elena saved doesn’t remember a thing and is totally fine, so he’s going to look at her labs at the hospital. Before he leaves he also invites Elena to the hospital fundraiser as his date.
Of course Damon also shows up to the fundraiser, and he isn’t happy to see Elena with Liam. So, naturally, he confronts Liam and compels him to leave them alone while they dance. They talk, and it doesn’t help at all, all it does it make Elena feel bad about not remembering them so she goes outside to get some air.
During drinks, Jo reveals she relinquished her magic and put it away for safe keeping because of her dysfunctional family and she doesn’t regret a single moment. And over at another table over drinks, Luke tells Liv that their coven called them home and they should go but Liv won’t. It’s a bunch of witchy drama at the fundraiser, people.
When Elena comes back, she decides she wants Damon to help her remember everything and tells him to take her to the last place she told him she loved him. He takes her to the border, and tells her all the best memories he has of them but, alas, it doesn’t work.
And that’s when she crosses the border and tries to undo the compulsion, but Damon saves her before she dies. She sees a bunch of memories when she does cross, but it looks like they didn’t stick when she got pulled back. They head back to the dorms where Damon explains one last memory, but then he tells her that she’s happy with out him so he’s ready to let her go and he walks away. And unfortunately for Elena, Liam shows up and wants to know her secrets, otherwise he’s going to go hunting for them himself. No one’s happy here, guys.
Jo invites Alaric to her place, and he sees a huge scar on her stomach. She explains that her brother tried to kill her with a hunting knife a long time ago. Yes, Kai is her brother!
Fair Trade
Tripp is in the hands of Enzo, Stefan and Matt now, and Stefan’s not happy and wants to kill him but Enzo wants to get information out of him first. Tripp tells them there’s other men just like him hunting down vampires around town, so the Enzo and Matt are dealt the task of getting the names of those men.
Before they can do much, though, those same men run Sheriff Forbes off the road and force her to call Caroline to inform her that if they don’t get Tripp back, they’re going to kill her. Luckily Stefan is there when she gets the call, and takes her to pick Tripp up.
When they go to get Tripp, Enzo (king of poor timing) reveals that Caroline definitely has feelings for Stefan. It’s awkward as all hell, so Caroline tells them to never discuss it again.
Stefan, and Caroline show up to the border to trade Tripp for Caroline’s mother and they do the trade but when Tripp goes over the border his neck gets slashed magically and he dies. Enzo turned him into a vampire before they got to him. Clever! Luckily Tripp’s men just accept this and run away.
They take Sheriff Forbes to the hospital to deal with the wounds she got from Tripp’s men, and Stefan asks why Caroline has a thing for him. He doesn’t know how he missed it, and she explains she thought he was worth it. And he finally apologizes for how he treated her, but in the end she walks away.
Clever Witch Tactics
Back in Mystic Falls 1994, Kai tries to force Bonnie to help him rebuild the device (the ascendant) that can let them get back home but she isn’t having it. She stabs him in the neck and (temporarily) kills him so she can take all the pieces to the ascendant and run off to rebuild it on her own. She heads to a hospital to take care of the stab wound she got last week and tries to put together the device before the eclipse that day.
She manages to put almost all of the ascendant except the last piece, which Kai has. Yep, he’s woken up from his temporary death and followed Bonnie to the hospital. He traps her when they have an hour to the eclipse and forces her to help him go home.
At the cave where the portal is supposed to open, Kai tries to talk Bonnie and convince her that he feels bad about murdering his family. Sick of all the drama, she finally agrees to just take him with her. The eclipse starts and Kai holds tight to Bonnie as she does the spell but it’s not working. Why? Because she relinquished her magic herself and put it somewhere safe. She was never going to let him out of that prison, and now they’re trapped forever.
At the end of the episode Damon finds the stuffed animal bear that Bonnie put her magic in, cuing him to the fact she’s still alive.
