One benefit of following a showrunner on Twitter who’s as active as Shonda Rhimes is that sometimes you’ll see them put fans in their place in an entertaining manner.
Rhimes, the creator of Scandal and an executive producer on Shondaland’s newest drama How To Get Away With Murder, took a viewer to task over the weekend when they complained about the “gay scenes” in both shows.
One reply to the viewer wasn’t enough. Shimes sent three tweets and ended on the line “Bye Felicia,” a reference to the movie Friday which people love to quote when saying farewell to irrelevant people.
Here’s how the conversation went down:
. @Dabdelhakiem There are no GAY scenes. There are scenes with people in them.

@Dabdelhakiem If you are suddenly discovering that Shondaland shows have scenes involving people who are gay, you are LATE TO THE PARTY.

. @Dabdelhakiem If u use the phrase "gay scenes", u are not only LATE to the party but also NOT INVITED to the party. Bye Felicia. #oneLOVE

Rhimes is always one to stand by her work, so we’re not surprised to see she addressed someone in this manner. It’s likely that Rhimes has been seeing a few comments about the “gay scenes” in her Twitter feed lately, because there are viewers out there who definitely aren’t used to seeing this amount of male on male action on their television screens.
Speaking of: The watering eyes line on Murder last Thursday was one of our favorite moments on the show to date. We hope Rhimes and company will continue to push the limit because it’s making for great television.
Scandal and Murder air every Thursday starting at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on ABC.
