The town of Chester’s Mill is desperate, but no one is more desperate than Big Jim, who’s just trying to save the family he loves.
Where we left off in the last episode:
The dome brought out its newest trick: contracting towards the town’s center. The townspeople were in immediate danger, and no one more so than Melanie. Her fate is still tied to the egg, and as the egg’s fate remained uncertain in Zenith, Melanie came in and out of consciousness, coughing up blood, and losing hair.
Barbie held a gun to Hunter’s head to draw Don into conversation at the edge of the dome, trying to get the egg back. Once he found out Melanie was alive in the dome as well, he said he’d bring it in. Unfortunately, when he retrieved the egg from the playground, guardsmen held him at gunpoint, following mysterious orders.
Rebecca and Julia continued their science versus faith battle, but when Rebecca finally learned that Melanie came back from the dead, it called into question everything science has ever taught her.
Jim got Pauline painting again, and she painted a picture of eight hands helping Melanie at the crater in the woods (plus another mysterious blood-dripping picture.) So the Four Hands old and new (minus Angie) gathered around Melanie, and placed their hands on her. Melanie seemed to be good as new, but before anyone could celebrate, the ground opened up and swallowed her, opening a deep dark hole in the ground.
Everyone blamed Pauline and her unreliable psychic painting. She confessed her love to Jim and they kissed, but when he pulled away, he found she was bleeding from the mouth, and Lyle was standing behind her with a knife. She claimed the dome wanted her to sacrifice, and collapsed to the ground. Jim tackled Lyle in a rage, stabbing him in the chest with his own knife. Lyle thanked him, because now he and Pauline could be together forever.
