Doctor Who always manages to encounter legendary figures. This time it’s Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men.

If the previews for Saturday are any indication, meeting Robin Hood ranks pretty high on Clara’s to do list. The Doctor, on the other hand, is looking distinctly unimpressed.
Season 8, episode 3 is titled “Robots of Sherwood.” According to the BBC, the official synopsis is:
In a sun-dappled Sherwood forest, the Doctor discovers an evil plan from beyond the stars and strikes up an unlikely alliance with Robin Hood. With all of Nottingham at stake, the Doctor must decide who is real and who is fake. Can impossible heroes really exist?
The episode stars Tom Riley in the title role. In case you’re wondering why he looks familiar, it’s that he is not usually a blonde. U.K. audience members might recognize him as Lawrence Shepherd from his stint on Monroe a few years back. Nowadays, he is most well-know for his portrayal of Leonardo DaVinci in the Starz series DaVinci’s Demons.
In an interview with Flicks in the City, Riley commented on his Doctor Who role and on working with Peter Capaldi. “It’s just one episode but it’s a really fun and it’s written by Mark Gatiss, so we’re in good hands,” he said. “I think Peter’s going to completely revitalize the show — not that it needed revitalizing — but he’s going to bring something completely different to the Doctor. When you change a lead actor, everything’s going to change, but you can rest assured he’s going to absolutely smash it!”
By the looks of the preview videos, it would seem that this episode is much more lighter-hearted in nature than the previous two episodes in season 8. Although the Doctor did have some moments of physical comedy in the series debut, those were short lived and mostly to do with the regeneration process. The question is will he be jolly in jolly old Sherwood Forest?
