Eight paladins remain in Everrealm, and one more must go before episode 5 is over. Who will continue on The Quest to defeat Verlox and become the One True Hero?
Jasmine’s departure was rough for a few of the paladins, but as only one can ultimately defeat Verlox, one by one each of them must face banishment. Only the Fates know who will be leaving Everrealm for good tonight on The Quest.
Back at Castle Saenctum
An ogre is attacking and the paladins are quickly put to work collecting the remaining armor and are told to lug a scorpion to the castle gates to fight it off. After quite the struggle putting together the scorpion, the ogre appears in all its glory. Ansgar does his best to fight it off using a club, but their assembly of the scorpion is less than ideal and they never get their act together in time to help Ansgar. He takes out the ogre single-handed.
After their failure to help Ansgar with the ogre, he instructs them to meet him at the drawbridge for a little training. The vizier heckles them a bit as they leave, but nobody pays him much mind.
Let’s train up these paladins.
Ansgar has them pick arrows to decide team captains for training, and Christian and Lina are the lucky two. Christian chooses Patrick, Bonnie, and Adria. Lina chooses Andrew, Leticia, and Shondo. The two teams are then told to construct a barricade using the items provided in a very short period of time.
Each team has a different strategy. Lina’s team thought through their barricade structure much more than Christian’s team. Ansgar then takes the two teams to the other side of the gate and tells them to break through the other team’s barricade.
Breaking down the gate
Each team was provided with a battering ram, and after a bit of a learning curve, both teams start to get a good idea of how to do some solid damage. After a period of no progress, Christian tries to use other means to break through the gate, and even after Ansgar yells at him to stop, he tries again. Christian is then told not to help anymore, since he couldn’t play by the rules.
Christian knew his team would fail, and he designed it that way because he wanted his friends to be safe so that they could save him. While his team lost, Christian’s friends may not have his back the way he thinks. Ansgar asks the winning squad to choose the member with the most ingenuity to award this week’s Mark. Shondo suggests Lina, because despite being the smallest, she never gave up and was instrumental in them constructing a solid barricade.
After the challenge, the paladins are practicing their swordplay in the courtyard, and it comes to light that Christian may have purposely tried to lose the challenge. This does not seem to be a popular idea amongst the paladins, as it doesn’t reflect qualities you want in your One True Hero.
Back to the Hall of Fates
Patrick, Christian, Bonnie, and Adria will be participating in the Fates’ challenge this week. One paladin can win safety from the final judgement, the other three will face banishment.
The four paladins are lead out to four cages. Each paladin must choose a cage and then maneuver through an obstacle course while carrying the cage around them.
Christian and Patrick arrive to the first obstacle, and Adria is not far behind. Bonnie struggles after the first hurdle and does not recover. Patrick uses his size and strength to muscle his way past Christian, and he flies through the rest of the course, reaching the key first and freeing himself from his cage. He will not face banishment. Christian files in second, with Adria taking third. Bonnie struggles to complete the challenge, but her determination not to give up saw her rolling the cage on her hand and she yelped in pain. The other three paladins come to her rescue and Patrick chucks her cage into the woods after freeing her.
The final judgement…
Lina, Shondo, Andrew, Patrick, and Leticia go out to the table to make the final decision, and while Bonnie may not have faired well in the physical challenge, she clearly has the most heart. Leticia goes on to talk about how Adria has qualities she finds important for the One True Hero to have, and Patrick reminds them all that Christian has already survived three banishments, so it may be his time to go.
And the next paladin to be banished is…
Christian. Only Leticia stood behind him, and she only did so to make Christian feel better about his banishment. He pushes his part of the Sunspear into the altar and leaves the hall, as his time on The Quest has come to an end.
After they exit the hall, Bonnie and Adria are grateful for their fellow paladins’ choice, and the group returns to Castle Saenctum seven strong. Ansgar comes across Patrick and Shondo working with the saddles, and when Patrick told him that Bonnie hurt her thumb, Ansgar goes to her to see if she can still handle a sword. She proves that she can. Bonnie then tells Ansgar that she finished his song, and after a heartfelt moment in which all the paladins sing with her, they duck in fright. A strange light appears behind them, and they all hide and try to figure out what it is.
