Actors Enver Gjokaj and Chad Michael Murray have been added to the cast of the upcoming Marvel mini-series, Agent Carter.
The cast of Marvel’s Agent Carter has grown by two familiar faces. The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Chad Michael Murray has been cast as Agent Jack Thompson, and Enver Gjokaj will play Agent Daniel Sousa. The two characters will join Hailey Atwell’s Peggy Carter at the Scientific Strategic Reserve in the late 1940’s.
Murray is best known for his starring role on the CW’s nine-season series One Tree Hill, and recently appeared in Fruitvale Station. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Gjokaj came attention in Joss Whedon’s short-lived cult hit Dollhouse. Morphing between characters from week to week, the actor quickly became a fan favorite. After a recent arc on Rizzoli and Isles, it is exciting to see Gjokaj land a lead role on Agent Carter.
Set in New York City in 1946, the eight-episode run of Agent Carter will focus on Peggy Carter’s work at the Scientific Strategic Reserve (or S.S.R.), later to become the sprawling spy organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D.
After being tapped by Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) to run the S.S.R. in the Marvel one-shot of the same name, Agent Carter will follow Peggy as she builds the organization – and continues the fight against lingering HYDRA infiltrators. On a personal level, Peggy will cope with her continued grief at losing Steve Rogers, while asserting herself as female leader and spy in the regressive atmosphere of post-war America.
Agent Carter will be helmed by Resurrection showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas. Early episodes will be directed by Captain America: The Winter Solider directors Anthony and Joe Russo, and potentially Joe Johnson of Captain America: The First Avenger.
The eight episodes of Agent Carter will serve as a mid-season break for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and will air in that show’s time slot on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m.
