Arrow season 3 may still be over a month away, but a new villain has been cast. Felicity’s backstory episode has also gotten a name change.
First off, Matt Ward has been cast as Simon Lacroix, aka Komodo, reports EW.
In the Arrow-verse, Simon is “a deadly mercenary using the code name Komodo, who wreaks havoc in Starling City.”
In the DC comics, Komodo is an archer and enemy of Green Arrow. He first appeared in 2013’s Green Arrow #17 and served as a main villain for a time.
So what can we expect from Komodo in season 3? According to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, he is the villain-of-the-week in episode 2, but “Team Arrow’s pursuit of him is part and parcel of a season-long storyline.”
He adds, “You’re going to know what happens to Komodo at the end of the episode, but it will be a little bit tied in better with the season-long mythology than villain-of-the-week episodes we have done in the past.”
Ward’s other credits include Remedy, TRON: Legacy, and Charlie St. Cloud.
Meanwhile, a Felicity-centric episode was announced for this season at SDCC and her mother was even recently cast. However, the episode will no longer be titled “Oracle,” as originally slated.
Instead, it will be titled “The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak,” according to EW.
“We’ve established in the past that Mom is a cocktail waitress in Vegas,” Guggenheim says. “She and Felicity are two very different people.” Mama Smoak will appear in episode 5, which will focus on “the differences between these two women and how much of their relationship is a struggle as a result. It’s a real challenge for these two people to find some common ground.”
Despite this look into Felicity’s past, don’t expect to learn the identity of her father during the hour. Rather, that mystery “probably gets extended more than it gets answered,” Guggenheim teases.
Arrow season 3 premieres Wednesday, October 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
