What’s David Brent been up to since leaving his iconic Office all those years ago? A BBC movie will explore this question, the network announced this week.
The Office creator and star Ricky Gervais will produce a new film titled Life On The Road which follows “Brent’s progress in the 15 years since leaving the company.”
The BBC says that when we catch up with Brent he’ll be “a travelling salesman financing a U.K. concert tour in the hopes of fulfilling his dreams of becoming a rock star.”
Life On The Road will be mockumentary style just like The Office was and plans to begin filming in 2015. The BBC says they hope to distribute the movie worldwide.
The network offered a little bit more on the plot in a report on Tuesday: “Brent assumes the director is making a rockumentary in the vein of Martin Scorsese’s film about the Rolling Stones – but it turns into a ‘where are they now’?
“Brent, now a travelling cleaning product salesman, covers the cost of session musicians by raiding his pension pot because the returns from ticket sales for his concerts are so meagre.”
The BBC’s Office was the inspiration behind NBC’s Office starring Steve Carell. Gervais’ original version of the show only ran for two seasons while the Dunder Mifflin iteration ran for nine.
