The Outlander cast and creative team walked the red carpet last night. Hypable was there to interview your favorites.
The Starz network really went all out for their Outlander premiere. Scotland was brought to life with bagpipers kicking off the event. Instead of a red carpet, a plaid carpet lined the entrance flanked by a cadre of men in kilts. Lastly, guests walked through a large display of standing stones just before entering the theater.
Creative team members included author Diana Gabaldon, executive producer Ron Moore, and soundtrack composer Bear McCreary. Both Gabaldon and Moore have formed something of a mutual admiration society. Each completely trusts the other’s artistic vision. As they interviewed together, there was a real sense of camaraderie and friendship not often seen between producers and authors.
Almost unbelievably, Bear McCreary has been a fan of Jacobite Era music since his high school days. He jumped at the chance to work on the show when Ron Moore mentioned it to him in passing.
Each cast member loved the realistic sets they had to work on. Especially Graham McTavish and Lotte Verbeek adored where their complex characters got to spend the most time. Each also dished on how they see the many sides to their characters. They are not just black and white.
Both Tobias Menzies and Nell Hudson enjoyed being the characters that fans both love and love to hate. Despite their hated status, they too found good qualities in their characters.
Sam Hueghan and Caitriona Balfe adored the Scotland filming experience and spoke of Scotland as almost another character in the show. In fact their real-life experiences at the standing stones site had everyone’s hair standing on end.
