Evangeline Lilly is currently on stage at Marvel’s SDCC ’14 Hall H and has been confirmed to play Hope Van Dyne in Ant-Man, and Corey Stoll will play the film’s villain – Yellow Jacket.
Marvel’s blockbuster actors filled the seats at their Hall H announcement and the first to be announced was Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne in Marvel’s new film Ant-Man. They also announced that actor Corey Stoll will play Yellow Jacket, the film’s villain.
Hope Van Dyne is reportedly Hank Pym’s daughter in the comic, and eventually becomes the supervillain Red Queen. There were rumors that she may play Wasp, but her character is actually the daughter of Wasp.
The actress was most recently seen in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug as Tauriel, but her biggest fan base comes from her role in the highly popular TV show Lost.
Lilly hasn’t even seen the film’s script for her role, as there are currently no details for her character, which is due mostly to the script being rewritten by Peyton Reed after Edgar Wright abruptly left the project due to creative differences.
“We’ve been fans of Evangeline for years, and couldn’t be more pleased that she’s agreed to join us on Ant-Man’s journey to the big screen,” said Marvel’s Kevin Feige. “We look forward to audiences learning more about her character when she joins forces with Hank Pym and Scott Lang in 2015.”
Corey Stoll’s character was also announced and while we knew he’d been cast to play the film’s villain, we didn’t know who he would be playing. The House of Cards actor will be playing Yellow Jacket, and we couldn’t be more excited as he’s an excellent actor.
Ant-Man has been gaining steam as of late with Paul Rudd being cast as Ant-Man and Michael Douglas joining the film as Hank Pym.
Ant-Man will begin production this soon and hit theaters July 17, 2015. We look forward to hearing more about Evangeline Lilly’s Ant-Man character as more details emerge.
